PROPOSALS

Legislative Proposals

The primary purpose and function of our legislature is to legislate, and most importantly, legislate in the best interest of our citizens. Throughout this election season, I expect to publish several initiatives I’d advocate for and champion in office, including an Open Meetings Act, a Transparency in Government Act, the creation of an Elder’s Council, and others.

Elders & Youth Council

Many of our adults and youth feel disconnected from our community and our traditions, and I truly believe we need to find long term solutions to solving these problems.

One solution is to establish and formalize an Elders & Youth Council to create more opportunities for the community to be engaged and to facilitate intergenerational knowledge sharing. This solution is designed to be a more permanent fixture in our community, differentiating from the PLP and Mdamen which are short-term in nature.

Generational Continuity: Elders pass down teachings, traditions, and collective wisdom, ensuring knowledge survival for future generations.

Community Engagement: Create a structured opportunity for youth and elders to participate in our tribal governance.

Empower our Youth: Help develop young leaders, providing opportunities to develop public speaking, advocacy skills, and event organizing.

Open Meetings Act

As part of my commitment to transparency and open government, I propose as a starting point the following Open Meetings Act that codifies how governmental meetings are conducted, the timing and method of notices to the public for these meetings, and who may or may not attend meetings. It’s important to me that this be a collaborative document, that this serves the general interest of citizens as well as retaining the ability of our legislature to properly conduct business of a sensitive nature.
