bozho thayék
My name is Steve Livingston, and I am running to represent you as your Citizen Potawatomi Nation District 1 Legislator. I’m looking forward to meeting others in our bodwéwadmi community, and to help move our nation forward into the future.
Why I’m Running
Transparency in
Government
All citizens, whether located in Oklahoma or elsewhere, should have the right to be actively involved in our government, to know what our leaders are doing in our name, and to weigh in on the future of our nation. I will seek to expand access to information for all citizens regarding the activities of our nation.
Impact and change
I am proud to be Citizen Potawatomi Nation and of the legacy that our ancestors fought and built for us. I want to be a change agent for our nation, and to bring a different perspective to our legislature than what we’ve seen in years past. We, collectively as a community, can be proud of all of our growth and accomplishments while simultaneously looking to evolve in different ways.
Culture, Language, and
Community
Our political existence, as a sovereign, independent indigenous nation rests on the strength of our culture, language, and community. We need to ensure our language and culture not only survives, but thrives in the generations to come. Language, specifically, is central to our identity and, as our elders have said, without our language we cease to be Potawatomi.
Expanded Services to All Citizens
Our nation is only as strong as our people. Our nation serves two purposes, 1) to protect and ensure our continued sovereignty, and 2) to provide for the betterment of our people. I wish to be a voice on the legislature that seeks to expand our housing, health, educational, and cultural services to our citizens.
